OpenAI will combine the Chat and Work tabs for Plus, Pro and Business plans, sharing token allowances with Codex.
OpenAI announced that it will merge the Chat and Work tabs in the ChatGPT desktop app starting in December.
The change will first be tested with select users before a wider rollout, according to an email sent to current users.
Both ChatGPT and Codex will draw tokens from a shared allowance pool for Plus, Pro and Business plans, while instant chat remains free of usage charges.
OpenAI says most users will not notice disruption, though some may experience longer wait times for token resets depending on model and task complexity.
Codex will continue to be a separate experience within the desktop app, and the merged interface will let users bring files and plugins to build websites, presentations, or perform web tasks.
