On Oct. 6, French AI lab Mistral unveiled Mistral Large 4 (ML4), nicknamed “Le Chonk,” a trillion‑parameter open model whose weights are now publicly available.
ML4 scored 41% on the Terminal‑Bench 4.0 coding benchmark, up from 28% in its preview, and placed a point behind GLM‑5.3 on the overall Artificial Analysis Coding Agent Index with a score of 48 versus 49.
The model runs with three reasoning modes—low, medium, high—and uses 47% fewer tokens per task than comparable open models, according to Mistral.
